Making Games Again

A quick update for those still following the blog:

I’m back making videogames, having joined Thought Pennies several months ago (as the design director). I won’t be able to do a whole deep dive into the experience until we announce the game properly, but I am excited to be working with some familiar faces, and many exceedingly talented game developers that I haven’t had the chance to work with before.

It is exciting!

The CCO of Thought Pennies is Daniel Erickson (writer of the Dwarf Noble and Elf Commoner Origin stories on Dragon Age: Origins, and the lead writer on The Old Republic). Daniel has vast experience with crafting “branching narrative” games and I’m loving the narrative plans for our new game.

In way of “extended update”, prior to Though Pennies, I was working as a contractor for Hasbro/Wizards of the Coast on the Exodus RPG videogame, though largely on ancillary material for the game (like these books from Renegade Games). When work wrapped up there for me, I got back into building things of my own, using Godot to create a simple proof of concept for a game I’d one day like to finish. But for the time being I’m having lots of fun at Thought Pennies.

What about Raiders of the Serpent Sea, you ask?

Well, I won’t be doing anything new for that over the next few years, but I do still provide support on all the existing material, and maybe over the winter holiday, I might update a few details here and there. The Runic Tales website is the best place to keep up to date on all that: https://runictales.com/contact-us/

Anyways, hopefully it won’t be so long between updates. Excited to announce what we are working on! I think many past fans of the games I’ve helped create will be very, very pleased.

Take care,

-Brent Knowles

Former lead designer at BioWare (Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights). Creator of Raiders of the Serpent Sea.
