Star Wars: Annihilation
Drew Karpyshyn’s latest novel is now available! Here’s the blurb for Annihilation: The Sith Empire is in flux. The Emperor is missing, presumed dead, and an ambitious Sith lord’s attempt to seize the throne has ended fatally. Still, Darth Karrid, commander of the fearsome Imperial battle cruiser Ascendant Spear, continues her relentless efforts to achieve total Sith domination of the galaxy. But Karrid’s ruthless determination is more than matched in the steely resolve of Theron Shan, whose unfinished business with the Empire could change the course of the war for good. Though the son of a Jedi master, Theron does not wield the Force—but like his renowned mother, the spirit…

Back at it
Over the weekend I attended STARFest, a literary festival in St. Albert. There, I had the opportunity to interview former BioWare coworker Drew Karpyshyn. I think the interview went well. The main focus of the presentation was exploring how to write evil characters, specifically his work with the Darth Bane novels, but extending to Mass Effect and other properties he’s worked with. There was also time for some great questions from the audience. I do not believe there was any recording of the interview but there were pictures taken and I’ll let you know when those are available. Also, one specific question that I asked was whether Drew was going…

STARFest – Drew Karpyshyn
If you are in Alberta near the end of October, there’s an event you might be interested in attending. I’ve been invited to interview Drew Karpyshyn on Sunday, October the 21st at the St. Albert Public Library as part of their STARFest event. If you are a fan of Drew’s work, either his videogames (i.e., Mass Effect) or his novels (such as his best selling Star Wars – Darth Bane series), you should come out and meet him. We’re still working out the details of the interview but there’ll likely be time to ask him a few questions. If you are unfamiliar with Drew’s work, I encourage you to peruse…

I knew them when…
Hey, I’m still busy moving and doing edits on the novel. Hence the relative silence online. That said I do want to highlight some good news. Two Writers of the Future winners from the same year as me have received Nebula nominations. Huge (and belated) congrats out to Tom and Brad. Since they are nominated in separate categories I can hope that both of them win: ‘‘Mama, We Are Zhenya, Your Son’’, Tom Crosshill (Lightspeed 4/11) ‘‘Ray of Light’’, Brad R. Torgersen (Analog 12/11) [See the full list of Nebula nominees] Additionally Brad is nominated for a Hugo for the same story and the John W. Campbell Award for Best…

Latest Toy: AT-AT
So this is what my 6yr old recently bought. Pretty cool, eh? He saved up for it for quite a while but unfortunately it was sold out by the time he had the cash. Luckily my wife phoned around, found one on the other side of the country and had it shipped here. I had an AT-AT when I was a kid but this version would eat that one for lunch.

Bad Dad
My 4yr old (formerly known as the 3yr old) really likes Boba Fett. And I have a Boba Fett that is still in its package which really pisses him off. So I *accidentally* placed Boba a little bit out of reach. This created about an hour of fun for me…
