    2014 Year in Review

I sold three stories this year. (The first two can be read online, for free, if you are so inclined.) “Some We Eat and Some We Keep” to Robot and Raygun “Her Robot Babies” to Perihelion “Red Means Go” to On Spec Magazine (forthcoming) Recently I also learned that my short story ‘Digital Rights’, which was published several years ago after winning the Writers of the Future contest, now has an audio version courtesy of StarShipSofa! You can listen here (the story is towards the end of the podcast). Word Count I set a goal to write 130 000 words in 2014 (which was quite low compared to past years…

    2013 Year End

This is the time of year that I review my goals and milestones for the previous year and bore all of you with the gory details :) I am well pleased with how well the Lazy Designer series performed. I’ve exceeded sales from prior years, I think in large part helped by the release of the third volume (Gameplay and Exploration) and a print version of the first book. The final two volumes are going through edits right now and will be available next year. In terms of writing goals, I met most that I wanted. I exceeded my goal of writing 250 000 words this year — reaching around…

    Word Goals

For those of you who stop into this blog but are really only interested in Lazy Designer news, you can subscribe directly at the new Lazy Designer site. This replaces the old “Lazy” mailing list and I have already transitioned those who had signed up there. If you sign up you should receive, via e-mail, a sample chapter from Book 3… it might take an hour or so though for that to reach you. Let me know if that does not happen. There’s also another freebie for direct download there. Okay, back to the blog post: This post, “Word Goals” is not to announce the title of my new game…

    2010 Wrap-up

This is my year end summary of my writing endeavors for 2010. Overview Not surprisingly (given my ability to write full-time) this was my most productive writing year. I wrote in excess of 400 000 words, including my novel Latelander and a second novel. My word count goal for the year had been 240 000 words so I greatly exceeded that. I also wrote eight stories or so, exceeding my goal of six. The only goal I didn’t achieve was making my second pro sale (my first pro sale was to the Writers of the Future contest). New Stories Published in 2010 “Digital Rights” — Writers of the Future XXVI,…

    2009 – Wrap Up

This is my year end summary of my writing endeavors for 2009. I was still working at BioWare for three quarters of this year, so I’m expecting my productivity to increase for 2010. That said, I’m quite happy with the number of acceptances I’ve received this year. Stories Written in 2009: Four science fiction stories and one fantasy story (one of the sci-fi stories being my Writers of the Future winner). These were longer stories than I normally write, in the 9K+ range. I also wrote three chapters of ‘The Novel’. New Stories Published in 2009: ‘From the Sea’ On Spec #78 Fall 2009 ‘The Tale of Lady Spite’ Tales…

    2008 – Wrap Up

I only finished one story this year, what with moving, Dragon Age and a second child I found little time for writing. I’m taking a lot of time off in 2009 so I’m going to see if I can increase my productivity back to what it was in 2007. In 2008, I: Sold and saw in print: ‘A Ragman’s Vow’ (On Spec, Summer 2008) Added ‘The End of the Road’ to  AnthologyBuilder (originally published in Not One Of Us) Sold “From the Sea” to On Spec (perhaps for publication in 2009)? A couple stories being held for additional consideration, fingers crossed! Plus for kicks, my abridged writing history (skipped the middle years), as…
