In Way of Updates and Such…

I hope all of you are well, or as well as you can be given the current state of things. This is primarily an update regarding Raiders of the Serpent Sea (which I generally update via my Kickstarter) but I figured I’d provide an overview here while I prepare the next, more formal update over there). I am still deep in the race & class design for the player’s handbook portion (so that I can get that into playtesters hands sooner than later). Once complete I’ll resume writing on the game master’s guide (which I’ve still poked at while working on the player details) and will continue with the other…

    Thank you, Raiders!

The Kickstarter for my 5e D&D campaign, Raiders of the Serpent Sea, wrapped up on the weekend. I very much appreciate the support from all of you! For those that backed I am hoping to get an update out today or tomorrow on Kickstarter with some clearer ideas of timelines. And other than that I am busily building a final project plan and restarting those art pipelines that have been on pause while we waited on the new funding. Then it is back to writing & designing. This is my first Kickstarter and though I leaned heavily on the lessons that others learned (thanks, Stonemaier Games, Enworld & all the…

    Don’t Eat the Burger

I’ve mentioned the trip I took to Iceland a few times in the past. It was just me and my kids and we had a very fun trip, though I wish we had spent two weeks there instead of just the one. . We did all the standard tourist things, though I did go out of my way to make sure I ended up on a very special street.. So all in all it was a very fun trip and it helped launch me towards Raiders of the Serpent Sea. I was surrounded by all of this natural beauty and history and it was all very inspiring. And 90% of…

Raiders of the Serpent Sea has Funded!

Sorry this is coming in several days late but since we funded, I’ve been very busy updating stretch goals and connecting with people wanting to talk to me! But I did not want to forget to post here and THANK ALL OF YOU! We have reached our funding and have just slid past the $215k mark, with several stretch goals unlocked already!!! And we’ve almost reached our second Community Stretch Goal — unlocking the Beastborn player race and reducing the costs of all other stretch goals. (Only 3 more people need to become Jarls to make this happen). So exciting to have passed that funding mark on Raiders of the…

    95% Funded – Thank you!

Hello all, I’ve been busy over on the Raiders of the Serpent Sea Kickstarter but I thought I would do a small update here as well. The Kickstarter is going well and we are closing in on securing the funding required to cover the art and printing costs for the book — meaning it looks like it is going ahead. Yay! (And again, thank you all for pledging your support). I was fiddling around with some story content for Raiders of the Serpent Sea and I’ll eventually post this to the Kickstarter site as well, but thought I’d share it here first. Athils and her brother live in the Whar…

    The Adventure Begins!

Raiders of the Serpent Sea has launched on Kickstarter and will run for 30 days. I am hoping you will follow along with us on this journey. Your reward? Another high quality hardcover campaign guide and new player’s rules to bring glory to your tabletop campaigns! Please support the Kickstarter now. Thank you. The Grimtroll requests your support! A Bit About Funding & Stretch GoalsThe intent behind this Kickstarter is to pay for the art that has been produced and to purchase the remainder of the required art, as well to pay for the physical copies to be printed, stored, and transported. I’ve kept the Stretch Goals pretty simple, to…

    Artists of the Serpent Sea

I am very pleased by the largely positive (and entirely constructive) reception to the Raiders of the Serpent Sea player’s guide to this point. Thanks for all the kinds words and your suggestions. As we roll into the Kickstarter to fund the remainder of this project — and beyond — we’ll be taking a close look at all of the comments you’ve been making in regards to balancing, flavor and interest. Please head over to our Kickstarter page and ask to be notified when it launches! With that said, knowing how busy I’m about to be with the Kickstarter, I wanted to take the time to thank all of the…

    The Raiders Campaign

A question I’ve been asked a few times about Raiders of the Serpent Sea is: “What sort of campaign is this. Is it like Odyssey of the Dragonlords?” The short answer is, of course, it is like Odyssey! But… what does that really mean? I really enjoy game mastering Odyssey and Raiders borrows significantly from the framework/structure developed for that campaign. And where I think I can improve delivery, I have. Here’s a bit more about it… This is a Campaign — Not Just a Setting I want Raiders to be usable by other game masters — a practical sourcebook that is fun to read in between sessions and useful…

    Player’s Guide Now Available!

So, here we are! The preview edition of the player’s guide for Raiders of the Serpent Sea is now available. You can download it from Modiphius.net, Modiphius.us, or DriveThruRPG.com. In the pages of this free pdf you will find two new races and three class archetypes as well as background about the world and a preview of the naval rules we will be developing. I really appreciate the hard work of the artists, and Michal E. Cross who did a fantastic job with the layout and the brilliant page design. I hope you’ll agree that this book stands up, quality-wise, to Odyssey of the Dragonlords! What To Expect? We intend…
