Not Another Lego Picture
Still no real news to report so here’s a bit of a status update. First, progress on the Lazy Designer Book 3 is slow. And it has decided to reproduce. This is the book on gameplay and it seems that I have more to say on the subject than I initially imagined. I have almost reached the 80 000 word mark on it (book 2 was about 50 000). Given the size of this book I am going to split off the section on story/character (which was intended to be part of this volume) into its own book (becoming book 4 of the Lazy Designer series). My intent is to…

Word Goal Reached
This week I passed the 300 000 word mark for 2012’s writing effort. Most of this work has been on novel #5 and Lazy Designer #3 but I also wrote more stories this year than I have in any other one year period. I am light on words, compared to the past two years (last year for example I exceeded 430 000 words), but this was intentional. The youngest kid is home more with me for the remainder of this school year. Next year he starts going to school more regularly, so I’ll get a bit more time to write. The year after that I’ll get *a lot* more time…

It seems that I now exist…
Hi. I’m back. For a little bit anyways. The main reason for the long silence on this blog is that I’ve been busy. I’m heading into the last few months of the year and still have several goals I need to reach. I’m a few chapters shy of finishing the rough draft for novel#5 — should be done by end of October — but I also need to review and revise it by year’s end. I also have to write the third Lazy Designer game design handbook (about design specializations). So lots of writing related work remaining. I’m also doing some contract testing for a soon to be released game.…

Game Playing
This is a somewhat random post but lately I’ve been playing more games than usual (I blame GamrCred for retriggering the urge). Nothing recent, mostly games I bought years ago or demos. I finally checked out a couple demos kicking around on the Wii (not sure how long they’ve been there, I find the Wii store horrible to navigate through… menus make no sense to me at all so I generally avoid it). What I found interesting was that both were games I’d not normally have bothered playing (i.e., not rts or rpg). One I disliked, one I enjoyed. The game I didn’t really enjoy was 2 Fast For Gnomz…

Back from a couple days away
Took a mini vacation with the kids but I’m back now and catching up on email. Plus I wrote a story today. Will see if my experiment worked out… I thought of the idea, wrote first draft in the morning, had lunch, then spent the rest of the day rewriting polishing it and tonight I’ll submit it. So, pretty much the fastest story I’ve ever written

One Way to Mars
So I’ve been following the progress of the Mars One project. In case you are unfamiliar with this, it is basically a one-way trip to Mars, with a landing intended in 2023. You can find more information at their site: http://mars-one.com/en/. I’m really curious if this will get off the ground. They seem to have a solid list of deliverables but will, of course, require an insane amount of expertise and money to pull this off. But setting such practicalities aside, I’m more curious about the kind of person who’d want to take a one-way voyage to Mars. I think I might have considered this when I was younger. Not…
