    Got GamrCred?

The team who created Empire Avenue have launced a new sister site, oriented towards gamers called Gamrcred. “GamrCredâ„¢ is your ultimate rank based on how you play, what you say and the respect you earn” So congrats to the team for putting together a slick looking site. Gamrcred is going to be invite only for a while, but I might be able to get invite keys for a few people. If you are interested toss me an email at my brent@empireavenue.com address. Want to learn more about it? Check out the blog: http://blog.gamrcred.com/

    Empire Avenue Stuff and Things

In my quest to fabricate a purpose for my brand new and shiny brentknowles.wordpress.com blog I’ve decided that most of my Empire Avenue musings will be posted there instead of on this blog (which will remain focused on writing and game design). If something amazingly awesome happens I might crosspost but generally if you care about Empire Avenue stuff you’ll have to head over there. I might port some of my earlier posts there as well if I remember to do so. For now you can find them at http://blog.brentknowles.com/category/empire-avenue/

    Gamifying Charity

Over on Empire Avenue veteran player William Pitcher has triggered a lot of interest in Kiva, which is, in their own words: …a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty… William is encouraging players to join his team on kiva. Anybody who lends money to a cause on Kiva will then receive a large number of ‘share purchases’ by others users who are donating their virtual wealth, in addition to real money, in an effort to promote this cause. Go here to read William’s post on crowdsourcing and gamifying if you would like to learn more.

    Hathead

So I’ve come to recognize that I wear many hats. I’m a retired game designer, a writer, a software developer, and a consultant. I also blog and I’m (somewhat) active on various social media sites. While wearing the vast majority of my hats I truly want to encourage others to connect with me. I enjoy talking about writing, or engaging with other users on Empire Avenue, or passing on game design advice. However many people seem interested in only one thing: for me to talk about my time at BioWare! Again, I like taking my experiences and generalizing them to pull out useful bits of game design advice. And in…

    Consulting and Me

As many of you know I am a design consultant with Empire Avenue. I’ve also done some game consulting for other groups since I retired from BioWare and I have spoken to various companies about doing more consulting. In line with my last post about my three year plan I need to clarify my availability going forward. In an effort to focus time on my family and writing, I’m no longer looking for any new consulting opportunities. I want to focus on my current responsibilities and do them better. My focus includes Empire Avenue. You may have read about the recent growth at Empire Avenue and new funding. I want…

    Vital Empire Avenue Statistics

So in the last couple weeks I have reached a few milestones on the social network exchange Empire Avenue and I thought I would share them with you today. The Numbers I sold my 105 000th share! I reached 1000 shareholders… yes that means over a thousand people paid cold hard virtual currency to buy pieces of me I own almost 2000 people (but I recently sold a bunch of slackers) My share price passed the 82 eaves mark (eaves are the currency of the Empire and based on my calculations will probably replace the US dollar in 4-5 years*). I bought hundreds of shares in ‘newcomers’ like Intel, Ford,…

    Dragon Age 2

So I’m getting a bit more traffic than usual to this little blog and figured I’d give a bit of a shout out to those of you coming here curious about me, BioWare, Dragon Age, and Dragon Age 2. Hi! I haven’t played the Dragon Age 2 demo yet so I can’t really comment on it. I do appreciate the comments you have been giving me — there’s some great threads on several of the pages with people’s opinions on the gameplay and whatnot. I will put up my own here in a post once I’ve played it which should be this weekend if I can find some time. I…
