Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition
My friends over at Overhaul Games have released Baldur’s Gate, the Enhanced Edition!
If you were a fan of the original or just want to see what Baldur’s Gate was all about I encourage you to check this out. I’ve played the PC version over the past few months and it certainly brought back a lot of memories (and humbled me a little, given how many times I had my butt kicked).
It is available for PC and the iPad and there looks to be Android and Mac versions coming down the road.

I can’t believe the game is not on Steam. Why would they cut themselves off from the biggest PC game distributor? I hope it changes soon.

Spent many many hours back in the day playing this wonderful game. Still a classic!

Agreed!

Yeah I’m not sure why it isn’t on Steam, unless maybe it is a licensing issue?? I’ll bug Trent about it the next time I talk to him.

And in reply to myself I should note that you don’t actually need BeamDog installed to run it (as far as I know). It is a self contained purchase with its own launcher.

WOW!!!! I remember that game — yes I too spent countless hours… Seems cheap at 9.99 for the iPad – soooooo will have to check it out …

Have fun with it! I started with BioWare after Baldur’s Gate (my first game with them was Baldur’s Gate 2). Playing this game was my assignment before I started work with them so I have many fond memories of it too.

Wikipedia lists it as “Contract obligations” I just hope it’s not gonna hurt sales because I know some people won’t use any other service but Steam.
How did it feel seeing the Infinity Engine again? Sprites, GIF’s, the works. Brings back memories huh?!
I kinda hoped they would have done a complete UI overhaul but I guess it would have mean losing the point of this project.
Now I know which “mystery game” you were testing all these months.
Enjoy your Holidays.

Yep, definitely memories! It was kind of weird playing it on the iPad too. I hope they get a chance to do BG2.
And yeah, this was the game I was testing (though honestly I didn’t spend a lot of time at it… so many writing projects on the go).
Enjoy the holidays too, thanks.

How is the iPad version anyways?
PS: Some of my favorite MP sessions come from BG2.

I enjoyed the PC version because it was easier for me to control the party, but the iPad version was improving as they iterated on it. And there’s something cool about being able to just pick up and play wherever you are. I spent a lot of time rolling up various characters.
I haven’t tried the final version, because I stopped testing before they were completely finished with it *and* I own an iPad generation 1, which was struggling with performance a bit.I believe that issue has been correct.
So I haven’t put a lot of time into it, on the iPad.As for MP, I never really got into it with any of the BioWare titles!
