I was more of a MechWarrior type myself. The 3d in that game was revolutionary.

I also liked the Battletech game, but it was either incredibly difficult or incredibly easy, depending on whether you managed to defeat the enemy mech in the training arena and keep your training mech for the next parts of the game. Kind of killed the replayability for me.

I liked the MechWarrior games too but I really enjoyed customizing the Mechs in Battletech (and finding new ones), collecting a ‘party’ and so on.

And I’m sure I’m completely remembering the game through rose colored glasses. I’ll probably check it out on Dosbox or something and crush my fond memories.

Pretty tempted after finishing the novel I’m working on though to draft a design for a nextgen version of Battletech.
