My Life

Lazy Designer Week

I’m almost done the first three chapters of Defeating (novel#2) and I’m going take a bit of a break from fiction writing while I finish all the revisions to novel #1 and start submitting it.

Why?

As I’ve talked about before I try and write at least 1000 words a day… which I’ve been doing on Defeating the last week. But now that the first three chapters are done before I write anymore on it I want to go back and polish those and send them to my readers (this is something I did with the first novel). Basically I want to understand whether those first three chapters have really hooked the readers (and what aspects hooked them) before I write the entire book. So, that requires a polished three chapters. And polishing doesn’t count towards my daily word count goals.

So… until novel#1 revisions are finished I need a project to work on. Since I’ve started getting publisher interest about the “Lazy Designer” (my series of game design articles), I’m going to try and post one section a day on that. Starting tomorrow and lasting until next Tuesday (the 20th), hopefully filling in some of the chapters that are currently blank.

Please check those out as they come in and throw me comments. Also let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see my opinion on, game design-wise, and maybe I’ll oblige.

Former lead designer at BioWare (Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights). Creator of Raiders of the Serpent Sea.
