Busily Self-employed
It is nearing a year since I left the dayjob but I actually think I might be working longer hours than ever before. I have a task list that seems never ending!
How is that possible, you ask? I blame my brain.
See, I always have things I want to check out. Aside from the household chores that I’ve taken over (must say I’m becoming quite the chef) and spending more time with the family, I am always tinkering. Quick examples- researching RFID tagging for a project, data mining world news (for another project), working on a AI-driven procedural texture drawing solution (no actual project, that’s just for fun), updating the YourOtherMind writing platform and slowly reading through the hundreds of books I own and have never read. I also spend a little bit more time than I should on Empire Avenue and I started playing Sins of a Solar Empire.
Oh yeah, plus I’m finishing up my first novel and will be starting and finishing a second this year and I’ve written a half dozen new stories this year. And there’s also the Lazy Designer thing too.
This is what is so cool about being self-employed (and I’m using that term rather liberally given that I’m not really making much money right now). I have the time to pursue all these ventures.
So I never would have thought I’d end up being busier than when I was doing the dayjob thing, but it sure seems that I am.
There are drawbacks, but I think I’ll save those for a later post :)
