Finalist in Writer's of the Future Contest

I was very pleased last week to receive a phone call from Joni (Writer’s of the Future Contest) to tell me that I am a finalist for the contest for the 3rd Quarter. I have been waiting since that call for her to post the news on the official blog.

Read the details on the blog here.

So, what does this mean? My story will be competing with the stories of the seven other finalists to win favor with the judges. If it wins, then I get to attend a writing workshop and the story would be published in the next volume of the Writer’s of the Future.

I am thrilled. I have been submitting stories to the contest since 1997! This is my second kick at being a finalist. The previous finalist was in 2007, I didn’t place then of course, but I’m pleased to say that I’ve finally sold that story to another market… details forthcoming once I’m allowed. Anyways since 2007 I haven’t so much as receved an Honorable Mention from the contest… and now I’m a finalist again.

Press release on Yahoo Finance as well.

Former lead designer at BioWare (Dragon Age: Origins, Neverwinter Nights). Creator of Raiders of the Serpent Sea.

Congrats! Best of luck. Try not to chew your nails off waiting for the results; WoTF notifications can come much later (or sometimes sooner) than you expect.

Very glad to have found your blog. I’ve always been fascinated by BioWare, what with their hiring calls for writers specifically – I’ve been tempted by that in the past, though in the end applying never made financial sense. Really enjoyed playing some of the BioWare games, though, especially Jade Empire. I look forward to reading the rest of your posts.

I hope to see you in CA next year ;)
